Pick-Up/Drop-Off Procedures

To ensure our students are safe and our parking lot runs efficiently, we need your help! Below are the procedures for dropping your children off at school and for picking them up:

Drop-Off

Entrance gates open at 7:45am and are closed at 8:20am. If  you arrive late, please check in through the main office.

Locations: The black gate.

Black Gate: If you are using the unloading/loading zone, please stay in your car and pull up as far as you can past the crosswalk before letting your child exit the car. Students must exit out of the right side of the vehicle.

While on Campus

First, all students hang their backpacks up outside their classrooms and walk to the playground to play until the 8:15 bell. Please do not wait in the hallways with your child.

Kindergarten: Line up outside of your classroom. Parents are required to park and walk their child to and from kindergarten each day.

1st-3rd: Line up with your class on the playground.

4th/5th: Walk up the ramp to your classrooms and line up outside of the door quietly.

Pick-Up

Locations: The black gate or playground entrance off of Monterey Road.

The gates open at 2:40 pm. Parents are more than welcome to park, walk on campus, and wait in the quad area for their children or drive through our loading zone to pick up. There is no parking along the red curb on Monterey Road.

Black Gate: If you are using our loading zone to pick up, please stay to the right so parking cars can pass on the left.

All parents are to stay in the car and continue to move forward along the loading zone. We have staff helping to make sure your children remain safe while helping with the flow of traffic. Your child will walk to load into your car as soon as you pull past the crosswalk. Students must load on the right side of the car.

Homework Policy

Our staff has done research related to homework and student achievement. There is significant research that shows homework in the elementary grades does not increase student achievement. Our students are being exposed to rigorous standards and work all day long while at school. We believe homework should be limited so that students have a chance to be kids, interact with their family, and participate in community activities, which all directly relate to student achievement. We are promoting reading, practicing math facts, and writing for homework but most importantly, we are promoting family time.

We hope you will join us in this promotion and take the time to play ball with your children, have them help you make dinner, go on a bike ride, read to them, play card games, and just enjoy each good old fashion family time!

Class Parties & Birthdays

Our teachers and staff have really been working to promote our district’s Wellness Policy here at Monterey Road. Treats are often brought into the classroom from home to celebrate birthdays, holidays, etc. We know how fun it is for students to get to celebrate such things with their friends and we want to continue to do that. However, to keep things simple and healthy, we are asking for families to bring in either fruits, vegetables, or non-edible items to celebrate special occasions. We will no longer accept anything that is not listed above. There are a lot of fun and creative ideas out there so have fun and thank you for helping us promote healthy choices with our students! We thank you for your support!

As for classroom holiday parties, our district wellness policy calls for a balance of treats. One sweet treat accompanied by healthy snacks is perfect for classroom parties. Room moms and teachers will be able to answer any questions regarding holiday parties.
